Strange Love
Short Stories and Twisted Tales
By Victoria Pearson
What a refreshing read this was. A collection of ten short stories on the theme of love in all its forms. From the heart-breakingly accurate “Old Eyes” through the deeply touching and thought-provoking “The Promise” (which should be compulsory reading for anyone thinking of getting married) via some excellent twists and “stings in the tale”. Just when you think you know where this is going, Victoria slaps you in the face with a wet fish, which is rare and clever.
I am a sucker for the re-telling of familiar stories with a completely new angle and this work really gave me a run for my money.
Victoria has a beautifully easy-to-read tone which avoids complex and tortuous phrasing, isn't overworked or gushy and then smacks you between the eyes with expressions like “end world hunger by next Thursday afternoon” to imply the impossibility of a request.
“Welcome to the Family” had me laughing out loud because I'm an animal lover and “Another New Beginning” made me shout at the computer screen with frustration (probably because it's a case of been there, done that and am now using the T-shirt as a duster!)
I'd recommend this collection to anyone who has ever loved anyone, human or animal or anything. “Heart of Ice” was chilling in more ways than one. Read it to find out why.

If this review influenced your decision Julia, I'm really pleased. I hope that this blog won't just be a "me advertise spot" but give a bit of a leg-up to others as well.
